The Marquis of the Conquest of Trujillo took over almost the entire valley of the Viejas River, Torneros and even near the town of Robledollano where he had important properties.
He charged for his services as a notary on a portion of land. In this way he was able to gather a farm of more than nine kilometers on each side in the most remote areas of the Villuercas.
A couple of generations later, his great-grandson, the Viscount of Amaya Don Antonio did not follow the family tradition of increasing the patrimony and dedicated himself to squandering the fortune he had inherited.
The Viscount of Amaya was a short, restless, unstable man, rather short and somewhat gangly. It is difficult to understand him and even more difficult to please him. In one of his outbursts he planned the construction of a sanatorium in the vicinity of Robledollano. Or at least that’s what they said in town….
The construction was the responsibility of two masons; Alonso, who was from the locality, and Santiago from Trujillo. The stone is made of slate and was carried by Basilio with two mules.
The works were carried out between 1940 and 1941. A stone and lime as the ancients say, a job very well done, with conscience.
It occupies the top of a hill. The general shape is rectangular, except for the main entrance, which is set back from the exterior line to be a few meters from the main entrance. It had two floors at the entrance in the central part, of the second only the walls remain.
The door and window basins are supported by a brick arch of almost flat shapes giving flattened profiles on them. Everything is quite overgrown with vegetation, trees that grow in the rooms and make transit very complicated.
We do not see any structure that denotes a special use of the facilities. We do not know if it followed any model for the sanatoriums or if the different rooms were reserved for specific uses. It looks more like a beautiful country house that the Viscount wanted to prepare in one of the most idyllic places of these surroundings.
The fact is that the Sanatorium never worked. Our nobleman went bankrupt and was selling the huge estate in parcels. There were several families who lived in the house for a few years but soon it was no longer in use. And time has done the rest of the work to find this important resource with less stones every day, with more vegetation that eats and breaks the whole.
It is located very close to the Ermita de la Virgen de las Nieves, surrounded by a beautiful chestnut plantation.
